It was a real honour to be able to contribute to this journal article and to be able to sit alongside such leaders in their field was a pinch myself moment!
I've been so so lucky in my career, from working with Olympic and world-class athletes to working in a start-up that ended up being bought by Sir Richard Branson...I guess the saying is true...hard work, really does pay off! I've never been the smartest person in the room, but you'll be hard pushed to find a harder worker!
Now, I realise that I've stolen two very famous people's sayings above...Matt Fraser (the CrossFit Legend) "Hard Work Pays Off - HWPO" & Dwayne The Rock Johnson "Hardest worker in the room". Now, whilst I can't compete with either of them when it comes to their fame or athletic prowess, I can learn from them the same way I did all those years ago when I worked with my athletes. Time and time again my athletes taught me that it wasn't always the best athlete that succeeded...it was the one that showed up when they didn't feel like it, the one that dedicated themselves to their trade even when other forces were trying to pull them away and most importantly...the ones that kept their heads while others were losing theirs!
Now as I feel the pride of being able to show my kids my name on a printed journal article, I can hopefully teach them some of those same lessons, that as long as they continue to show up, apply themselves and never EVER give up...there is nothing they can't achieve.
